During a conference call to promote his upcoming fight, Floyd Mayweather brought into question the careers of Shane Mosley and Manny Pacquiao. When a reporter asked him where he thought both fighters would rank among the all-time greats of the sport, Floyd said in a sarcrastic tone: “I can’t see how a guy like Mosley can even call himself great or I can’t see Mosley talking about putting himself as a Hall of Famer and this is a guy we don’t know how long he was taking enhancement drugs. This is something that we don’t know,” When it came to Manny Pacquiao, he had a lot more to say, making it a point to criticize Pacquiao’s career.
“And, okay, Manny Pacquiao struggled twice, which we really know he got beat, struggled twice with Marquez, which we know he really lost. Right? And we know he been knocked out twice and he got outboxed by Erik Morales, but then they still give him Boxer of the Decade. So that’s another thing I don’t understand,” Mayweather added, sounding irritated, perhaps jealous of so much attention and recognition that Pacquiao has received. “He beat a Miguel Cotto who just got pummelled with a cast, so, I mean, tell me what it really is? He beat a Miguel Cotto who got pummelled with a cast and he beat a Ricky Hatton that got stretched by me. So, I mean, I’m trying to find out what it really is. That’s not for me to choose. That’s not for me to put him in the Hall of Fame.”
Mayweather would then proceed to give a message to all boxers, but he was obviously directing it towards Pacquiao, stating, “All I’m saying is this, if you’re a clean athlete, take the test. That’s all I’m saying. That’s all I got to say. If you’re a clean athlete, take the test. Show the world. You know what? I’m a natural. Take the test, that’s all I’ll say.” It’s obvious that although he’ll be fighting Shane Mosley on May 1, it’s really Manny Pacquiao who gets Floyd’s blood boiling and really brings out his madness. As much as I would like to see Pacquiao beat Floyd’s punk ass, I know that fight won’t happen because Floyd will continue to duck Manny by demanding random blood tests, so I’ll just continue rooting for Mosley like the rest of you.
