If you ask me who is the best fighter in the light welterweight division, I would have to say Marcos Maidana. He is a beast who relentlessly chases his opponents inside the ring, and when he catches them, he knocks them out. Look at what he did to Victor Ortiz and Victor Cayo. This guy would easily beat the likes of Ricky Hatton, Paulie Malignaggi and Zab Judah. What makes Marcos so special is that he’s taking on dangerous opponents, and not looking for guys that will make him look good or ones that have no power to test him. He is the exact opposite of boxers like Floyd Mayweaher Jr. and Amir Khan. Maidana is willing to put himself in with the best there is in the light welterweight division and has not ducked anyone. The fact that Maidana is being put in the ring with a tough fighter like Timothy Bradley at this early stage in Marcos’ career speaks for itself, showing that he’s willing to take risks.
Marcos Maidana could become the next huge star in boxing if he can get by Bradley and then turn around and get fights with Devon Alexander and Amir Khan, though I think Khan, the duck that he is, will continue avoiding Marcos. Maidana’s power, granite chin, and his nonstop pressure are very hard to deal with and he has a way of wearing out his opponents. Bradley is going to be a huge test for Maidana because of his speed and boxing ability, but I think Maidana has the power and the style that will make things very difficult for Timothy. I think Maidana will win that fight and is going to be the biggest star in the division.
